OUR TRAVELOGUE

These young women, who come from Kurdish villages in eastern Anatolia, are being taught the ancient tradition of Turkish carpet weaving.  The goal of the lessons is to encourage them to become financially independent.  The director of the school invited us to observe the girls as they learned the intricate skills involved in working with silk and woolen threads.  He explained that Turkish carpets are the only ones in which double knots are used.
